Exploring Soil Structure Interaction Modeling with OpenSees: A Collaborative Experience in Assisi!

Updated: Oct 7

As I reflect on my recent journey to Italy for a workshop on Soil-Structure-Interaction-Modeling with OpenSees, my heart is brimming with excitement and admiration for the brilliant minds I encountered. In early September, I had the privilege of representing NHERI DesignSafe at this eye-opening event organized by the remarkable Davide Noè Gorini and his equally-inspiring colleague Domenico Gallese, PhD.

The technical discussions brimmed with innovation and promise, surpassing my already high expectations. The intricacies of Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) modeling unfolded before us, painting a vivid picture of the future of numerical modeling.

One of the highlights was the opportunity to engage with the young students and professors present at the event. Among them was my esteemed DesignSafe colleague Pedro Arduino, whose birthday we joyously celebrated during the conference. These connections added a personal touch to an already enriching experience.

The charming setting at the foot of the historic town of Assisi provided the perfect backdrop for our intellectual explorations. Italy, with all its cultural richness, served as an inspiring environment that invigorated our minds and hearts alike.

Personal Story: A Snapshot of Memories

As I reminisce about the event, I can't help but smile as I recall the laughter shared and the bonds forged with my new colleagues. Here are some selfies capturing the essence of our time together:

These snapshots capture the buzzing energy of each individual and the camaraderie shared among us throughout the week.

In conclusion, my time in Italy was an unforgettable journey of learning, growth, and meaningful connections. The workshop on SSI modeling with OpenSees not only expanded my knowledge but also broadened my perspective on the future of structural and geotechnical modeling. I left with a renewed passion for my work and a deep appreciation for this beautiful blend of science, culture, and friendship.

To Davide Noè Gorini, Domenico Gallese, Pedro Arduino, and all the incredible individuals I met along the way - thank you for making this experience truly unforgettable.

This blog post captures the essence of a transformative experience at the Soil Structural Interaction Modeling workshop in Italy, highlighting the vibrancy of the academic discussions and the warmth of the connections formed. Through engaging storytelling and personal reflections, the narrative aims to resonate with engineers and students interested in the cutting-edge developments in OpenSees and SSI modeling.
